JACK KILBORN AFRAID PDF

Meet the Guy Behind 'Final Girls'. While the jury is out on whether or not that was a wise decision, the DVD did contain an interview with Richard Matheson which I decided to watch to see if I could learn something about the craft of writing from one of my literary heroes. If it did, Kilborn would have wasted a great premise. There are so many things Kilborn does right in terms of craft.

The book is really an action novel with elements of extreme terror in it, not to mention tons of violence. The story centers around five crazed killers, who have been trained and programmed with microchips in their brains by the U. The purpose of which is to demoralize the enemy. This time, however, the team is sent to the American town of Safe Haven, Wisconsin to find one particular person.

Except for a small handful of people, everyone in the town will be killed, many of them brutally. These trained killers make Hannibal Lector seem like a choir boy.

The handful of people who manage to survive an elderly sheriff, a waitress and her son and his dog, and a fireman have information that the killers want, and the survivors of the onslaught fight back relentlessly through the long night to keep from being murdered, though a number of them are seriously tortured at various times.

This is a fight-to-the-death with no prisoners being taken over a twenty-four hour period of time. Afraid is certainly not for the faint of heart. Still, this book is very well written by Kilborn, and each chapter leaves you hanging with an unexpected surprise that forces you to continue reading on. I know people can be greedy, but I think more citizens might have questioned what was happening and then fought back.

Americans have a way of becoming very combative when push comes to shove. I think Afraid would make a terrific movie, but a lot of the violence would have to be toned down just to get an R rating.

For action and suspense, Afraid by Jack Kilborn is highly recommended. Order it here. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account. You are commenting using your Twitter account.

For readers who enjoy horror stories this one might be enjoyable, if they like their books bloody and violent. It's not a genre I tend to read, but seeing Barry Eisler had posted this book on either This is it. Has it all from suspense to graphic gory details to unexpected twists to mind control. Have added Jack Kilborn to my favorite authors list.

MI COCINA DE ESCOFFIER PDF

Jack Kilborn is a pen name for the author J. A Konrath, and this was his first novel writing under that name. There was quite a few instances I had to put the book down because I struggled with the content, a man hacking his own foot off to get out of a bear trap will do that to you. In this instance it reminded me a lot of early Shaun Hutson, mixed with some cool horror films of the present day. What Jack managed to do in this novel, is to take a classic plot line, mix in a sprinkle of gore, a smattering of action and a dose of tension and provide us with a novel that does exactly what it says on the tin, make us Afraid. It is essentially a story about some rogue Special Forces soldiers who have crash landed in a small rural village in the woods of Wisconsin who go on a tortuous killing spree while they look for a guy most people have never heard of.
